About Uganda Cultural Association of Alberta (UCAA)

The Uganda Cultural Association of Alberta (UCAA) is a vibrant community-based, non-profit organization that unites Ugandans living in Alberta, Canada. Founded on the principles of cultural pride, inclusion, and service, we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Uganda while fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness among community members.

UCAA serves as a home for Ugandans and friends of Uganda in Alberta, creating a welcoming environment for individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. By celebrating our shared heritage, we strive to strengthen cultural connections while bridging the gap between generations born in Uganda and those raised here in Canada.

At UCAA, our mission revolves around empowering and uplifting our community through cultural preservation, education, and support. Our work includes:

  1. Promoting Ugandan Culture and Heritage:
We organize vibrant cultural events, festivals, and activities to showcase Uganda’s traditions, music, dance, art, and cuisine. These events create opportunities for cultural exchange and deeper appreciation of diversity.
  2. Supporting Newcomers and Families:
UCAA offers programs designed to help Ugandan newcomers in Alberta adjust to life in Canada. These include financial literacy workshops, life skills training, resume writing assistance, job search support, and information on Canadian taxation.
  3. Hosting Annual Events and Festivals:
Our signature yearly events bring people together to celebrate culture, foster intercultural connections, and strengthen the Ugandan-Canadian community.
  4. Providing Community Resources and Assistance:
We work to address the needs of our community members, offering mentorship programs, youth engagement initiatives, and assistance to families in need.
  5. Advocating for Diversity and Anti-Racism: Through partnerships, programs, and grants, UCAA actively promotes diversity, inclusion, and intercultural understanding within Alberta.
